  • Rakia Jackson is a North Carolina based visual artist, curator, and educator working across painting, digital design, mixed media, and public art. After earning a BFA in Graphic Design from ECU, she established her arts career in Pitt County, through roles with the Pitt County Arts Council and as Education Coordinator for arts non-profit HeARToscope, Inc. There she developed and led youth programming, mural projects, and creative outreach initiatives supported the youth through art and expression.

In addition to her studio practice, Rakia enjoys curating exhibits and art centered eventa and facilitating public art programming to youth.

  • My work is rooted in themes of self-awareness, collective human experiences, and community healing. Weaving my personal narratives with universal themes, I seek to explore my visual storytelling and cultivate space for connections and memory in these pieces.

Working primarily in acrylic paints, mixed media, digital and public art I often use an intuitive process, and I construct layered compositions often featuring Black figures in ethereal or earthly environments.

Commisions - Cover Art + More

The root journey can feel heavy. You feel and indulge while holding back impulse. Being rooted means vulnerability and moving through overlapping healing phases until healing is lived, not just named. It’s also playing, exploring, losing and finding yourself repeatedly. To be rooted is not clinging to externally shaped versions of you but returning to what reflects your authentic self. Grounding into roots, ancestors, community, and chosen family.

Rooted, THE JOURNEY TO…

Follow My Movements
